When initiating a customer advisory board, marketers are sometimes asked by their senior management for a โ€œbusiness caseโ€ for creating one. Many are not sure how to structure the concept, the questions to ask or the data to provide back to management.

Or you might be looking for ongoing support for renewing an exsiting advisory board. The principles for justifying a new CAB can be applied to keep your existing CAB going.

Join guest speaker Rachel Kozun, VP of Global Customer Success, Quali to learn how she achieved internal alignment to launch their CAB. Ignite CAB expert Rob Jensen will review what you need to build a business case for launching your CAB.

Eyal Danon is the President and Founder of Ignite Advisory Group, and a world-renowned expert on customer and partner advisory boards.

Question:

Dear Eyal: Our product team wishes to start a CAB, but wants to run it themselves with no other departments involved. How can we encourage them to invite other departments to participate?

Answer:

While itโ€™s a good sign your product team wants to initiate a CAB, itโ€™s a red flag that they donโ€™t want to involve other departments.Thatโ€™s a sure sign their board will be focused exclusively on your existing products (and not necessarily forward looking), involve only product users as members, and discuss low-value, tactical product feature desires. I would suggest arranging a meeting with them and your executive management to discuss the benefits a CAB can deliver to all your departments (including sales and marketing), and the high value, strategic impact it can deliver to your company. (We can help here if you contact us!)
