Question: Dear Eyal,Our management is requesting we provide a gift basket to our CAB members thanking them for their participation at our next meeting. Do you think this is a good idea?
Answer: Providing members a small token of your appreciation can add a nice touch to your next face-to-face meeting. This is especially true if the gift reflects the theme of the gathering or the city in which the meeting takes place. However, do note that some firms, especially government agencies or contractors, may have rules about accepting gifts, and may only be able to do so if the cost is low (e.g. under $100), so be sure to check their policies. More importantly, don’t make the gift decision a science project – I’ve seen several companies distract event personnel from more important logistical duties or invest too many executive approval cycles when their focus should be on the strategic content of the meeting itself.
